The Good, the Bad and the Weird - Joheunnom nabbeunnom isanghannom     Trailer 17MB   Characters 14MB
It's official now, it's western week this week in this journal, and the most interesting one comes from the hotbed of the genre: South Korea. It's a regular trailer and a character trailer for the latest movie by Kim Ji-woon (A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life), both of which make excellent use of Santa Esmeralda's 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood'. Looks pretty awesome.
It's the story of three Korean outlaws in 1930s Manchuria and their dealings with the Japanese army and Chinese and Russian bandits, though I have a feeling the actual plot will be secondary. For the fans of Korean cinema, cast includes Jung Woo-sung (the Good), Lee Byung-hun (the Bad) and Song Kang-ho (the Weird).

Happy-Go-Lucky     HD480p 35MB   HD720p 88MB    Clip1   Clip2   Clip3   Clip4
US Trailer version and four clips for the very funny and endearing looking comedy from Mike Leigh (Vera Drake, Secrets & Lies, Naked) about having fun, looking for love and getting on with life. It's about an irrepressibly cheerful primary school teacher (Sally Hawkins who won the Best Actress Award this year in Berlin) who won't let anyone or anything get her down. Living with her flatmate, she has a gift for making the most of life. After her bicycle gets stolen she's determined to learn to drive. She finds herself matched with Scott (Eddie Marsan), an uptight driving instructor who is everything she is not.

Ballet Shoes    17 MB
Here's an odd constellation, a BBC adaptation of the novel by Noel Streatfield that was shown in the UK last Christmas and that apparently now will have a nationwide theatrical release in the US starting at the end of the month.
It's the heart-warming and uplifting story of three orphan girls (one of them played by Emma Watson) who are adopted by an eccentric explorer, Great Uncle Professor Matthew Brown (Richard Griffiths), and his niece Sylvia (Emilia Fox), in 1930s London. After the professor goes missing, the girls get enrolled in the Children's Academy of Dancing and Stage Training, starting a life in show business. Also part of the cast are renowned British actors Eileen Atkins, Harriet Walter, Gemma Jones and Marc Warren.

Fireflies in the Garden     16 MB
English language trailer for this intense drama about a family that gets torn apart by an unexpected tragedy. It centres on an author (Ryan Reynolds) who has channelled his painful childhood memories into his novels. With some reluctance, he is flying home for his mother's (Julia Roberts) college graduation. After a lifetime of putting everyone else first, stroking her husband's (Willem Dafoe) massively insecure ego and raising her children in spite of that, it's her turn. But what should be a moment of great celebration turns into a tragic reunion. Further cast members are Emily Watson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hayden Panettiere and Ioan Gruffudd.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa     HD480p 50MB   HD720p 97MB
First full trailer for the sequel that is basically an extended cut of the teaser. If you're a big fan of the first one you'll probably like this one too but for me it only shows that the gap between Pixar and the rest continues to widen.
The original voice cast returns (Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen and of course the penguins). New cast members are Bernie Mac as Zuba, Alex's dad and head of the pride, Alec Baldwin as Makunga, a challenger to Zuba and as Moto Moto, a watering hole lothario.
