When we arrived, a couple of miniature hot-air balloons could be seen. It's obviously not easy taking pictures of an open space during night-time with a simple camera without a tripod but I tried my best to take a few snap-shots.
Have a look at this short clip to see how the small balloons were lead around the meadow. In case you are wondering, no, that is not my voice that can be heard in the video.
Then it was time to inflate the big balloons. When you see them in the air in the distance you sometimes forget how large they actually are. Once you see them up-close you get a better feel for their size.
Then the real Nightglow began. For a good twenty minutes more than a dozen balloons, plus some additional flamethrowers were choreographed to different songs, ranging from Robbie Williams' 'Angels' to the theme song from 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
To say it was "choreographed" is a bit of an exaggeration since it isn't that easy to coordinate about 20 flamethrowers using wireless radio. But that didn't really matter, it was still a wonderful and very atmospheric event.
Here's a one minute clip of the finale with the theme from 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
After about 20 minutes the show was over and the balloons were getting deflated.
If you would like to see a more professional video about the events that took place that weekend (the day and the night events) then you can download here a 9 minute, 26 MB TV segment that was produced by a regional TV channel. It's in German but it's obviously more about the pictures.
And if you'd like to see previous balloon pictures, you just have to click the 'events' tag.
