Jackson, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collete and Tony Jaa are also part of the cast. Directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia, I Am Number Four).
If the links don't hold: HD720p 37MB   HD1080p 73MB.

20th Century Women     HD720p 22MB
Full trailer for this comedic drama set in Santa Barbara in 1979, the film follows a determined single mother (Annette Bening) in her mid-50s who is raising her adolescent son at a moment brimming with cultural change and rebellion. She enlists the help of two younger women in his upbringing - via Abbie (Greta Gerwig), a free-spirited punk artist living as a boarder in their home, and Julie (Elle Fanning), a savvy and provocative teenage neighbour. Billy Crudup is also part of the cast. Written and directed by Mike Mills (Beginners, Thumbsucker).
Still looks nice.

Drama about a single man (Chris Evans) raising a child prodigy - his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace). His plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of his formidable mother (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate the two. 11:38 am - Logan, Nocturnal Animals, Frank & Lola, Come and Find Me, The White King
Logan     HD720p 68MB   HD1080p 124MB
First trailer for the third movie focusing on Wolverine, again directed by James Mangold (Kate & Leopold, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma). Set in the future, Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) must cope with the loss of the X-Men when a corporation lead by Nathaniel Essex is bent on destroying the world. With Logan's healing abilities slowly fading away and Xavier's Alzheimer's forcing him to forget Logan must defeat Essex with the help of a young girl named Laura Kinney (Dafne Keen), a female clone of Wolverine. Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Elizabeth Rodriguez are also part of the cast.
You can choose between the US and the UK trailer versions, which are ever so slightly different. The UK one contains a more violent scene, confirming that the movie will most likely have an R rating.

Nocturnal Animals     HD720p 21MB
Second trailer for this stylish psychological thriller directed by Tom Ford (A Single Man) that "explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption". Susan (Amy Adams) is a successful Los Angeles art-gallery owner who wants for very little, yet she finds her paradise troubled by the frequent absences of her second husband (Armie Hammer), due to his incessant travelling. She is rattled further when a manuscript arrives on her desk, written by her long-estranged first husband (Jake Gyllenhaal). Alone, with her current husband away in New York, Susan opens the manuscript and is propelled into the fictional life of a teacher (also Gyllenhaal) whose drive to his summer house with his family is about to turn into a nightmare. Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Karl Glusman, Andrea Riseborough and Laura Linney are also part of the cast.
Intriguing, but also a bit complicated. In a good way, according to the many positive festival reviews. Though also a bit violent at times.

Frank & Lola     HD720p 15MB
A "psychosexual noir love story" set in Las Vegas and Paris about an up-and-coming chef, Frank (Michael Shannon), and an aspiring fashion designer, Lola (Imogen Poots), who cross paths at seminal periods in their respective lives. As a mysterious figure (Michael Nyqvist) from Lola's secret past resurfaces in the midst of their affair, Frank begins to question his trust in his own judgment and his loyalties to the woman he loves. Justin Long, Rosanna Arquette and Emmanuelle Devos are also part of the cast.
Got pretty good festival reviews.

Come and Find Me     HD720p 16MB
Relationship mystery in which a man (Aaron Paul), after his girlfriend (Annabelle Wallis) goes missing, must track down her whereabouts after he realises she's not who she was pretending to be. Garret Dillahunt is also part of the cast. Written and directed by Zack Whedon, brother of Joss.
Saban Films distributes a lot of garbage, but this might be among the more interesting films.

The White King     HD720p 33MB
UK trailer for this coming-of-age drama set some time in the (dystopian) future, that focuses on a 12-year-old boy whose father is imprisoned by the secret police in the totalitarian state he calls home. He and his mother (Agyness Deyn) must survive a world of savage lies and abuse as they try to find out what exactly has happened to him. Will his grandfather (Jonathan Pryce) – who is considered a hero of the state – be able to break through the veil of propaganda which denies everyone the truth? Or is it truly hopeless to fight with the system? Olivia Williams, Greta Scacchi, Fiona Shaw and Clare-Hope Ashitey are also part of the cast.
Festival reviews are a bit mixed, but the cast may make it worth a look.

11:43 am - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, A Cure for Wellness, Assassin's Creed, Handmaiden, Into the Inferno
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2     HD720p 52MB   HD1080p 92MB
Early teaser for the sequel which helpfully informs us that there are two types of beings in the universe. The movie will be set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2 and continue the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Countless cast members return, among them Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Glenn Close. Cast additions are Elizabeth Debicki, Nathan Fillion and Tango & Cash aka Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone. Again directed by James Gunn.
In case the links above don't hold: HD720p 31MB   HD1080p 82MB.

A Cure for Wellness     HD720p 76MB
Very stylish looking (horror) thriller in which an ambitious young executive (Dane DeHaan) is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure. Jason Isaacs, Mia Goth and Celia Imrie are also part of the cast. Directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mexican, Rango).
In case you are wondering, that's Hohenzollern Castle, actually located in the Swabian Alps, not far from, but not quite in Switzerland.

Assassin's Creed     HD720p 90MB   HD1080p 170MB
Full trailer for another movie adaptation of a highly successful video game franchise. Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. He discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed are also part of the cast.
Surprisingly, directed by Justin Kurzel who directed Fassbender and Cotillard in the recent adaptation of Macbeth. Alternative links: HD720p 49MB   HD1080p 96MB.

The Handmaiden - Ah-ga-ssi     France HD720p 27MB
The previously posted US trailer for the latest movie directed by Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Stoker, Thirst) was very well made but only one minute long and kept the surprise tightly under wraps that in a two and half hours long movie from Korea there will be Korean dialogue. Limited US release starts this weekend, so here's a trailer from France which has no English subtitles, but still gives a good impression of the movie.
1930s Korea, in the period of Japanese occupation, a new girl is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate with her domineering Uncle. But the maid has a secret. She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler posing as a Japanese Count to help him seduce the Lady to elope with him, rob her of her fortune, and lock her up in a madhouse. The plan seems to proceed according to plan until the two women discover some unexpected emotions.

Into the Inferno     HD720p 15MB
Trailer for the latest documentary from Werner Herzog (Encounters at the End of the World, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Grizzly Man). This time he teams up with volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer to offer not only an in-depth exploration of volcanoes across the globe but also an examination of the belief systems that human beings have created around the fiery phenomena.
Available on Netflix starting October 28th. Trailer version with English title cards on YouTube.

11:25 am - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Little Sister, Operator, Dog Eat Dog, Resident Evil, Fantastic Beasts
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story     HD720p 86MB   HD1080p 159MB
Final trailer for the spin-off that takes place before the events of Episode IV. It tells the story of rogue band of resistance fighters who unite to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy. Cast members include Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters).
Pleased to see that Mikkelsen really is in the movie. If the above links don't hold: HD720p 47MB   HD1080p 92MB.

Little Sister     HD720p 12MB
Comedic drama set in October, 2008. Young nun Colleen (Addison Timlin) is avoiding all contact from her family, until an email from her mother announces, "Your brother is home". On returning to her childhood home in Asheville, NC, she finds her old room exactly how she left it: painted black and covered in goth/metal posters. Her parents (Ally Sheedy, Peter Hedges) are happy enough to see her, but unease and awkwardness abounds. Her brother (Keith Poulson) is living as a recluse in the guesthouse since returning home from the Iraq war. During her visit, tensions rise and fall with a little help from Halloween, pot cupcakes, and GWAR. Directed by Zach Clark (White Reindeer).
Looks nice. Now in limited release and available on demand.

Operator     HD720p 16MB
Indie relationship drama with comedic elements in which an anxious programmer (Martin Starr) enlists the help of his empathetic wife (Mae Whitman) when given the task to create the perfect call center program. However, their relationship spirals out of control when he begins replacing her with an ideal computerised replica. Nat Faxon, Christine Lahti and Retta are also part of the cast.
The added layer of current technology trends could make this interesting.

Dog Eat Dog     HD720p 81MB
It's not easy to keep track of all of Nic Cage's movies, but here's another collaboration of him with Paul Schrader (American Gigolo, Cat People, The Walker). And it's apparently better than most of Cage's recent output. Which arguably sets a very low bar.
It's a darkly comical (and brutal) crime caper in which three ex-cons (Cage, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Matthew Cook) are hired by an eccentric mob boss (Schrader) to kidnap a baby for a large ransom. When the abduction goes awry, the trio find themselves on the run from the mob and the cops. Vowing to stay out of prison at all costs, getting away with the crime is literally a matter of life and death.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter     HD720p 48MB   HD1080p 93MB
Full trailer for what may or may not be the sixth and final movie of the series based on video games. Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity's final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken and Iain Glen are also part of the cast. Again written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil, Alien vs. Predator, Pompeii).

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them     Feat HD720p 74MB
Four minutes IMAX featurette that contains some new footage. But the reason I'm posting it is because I wanted to mention the bit of news that they are planning to make this into a series of five movies.

11:55 am - John Wick: Chapter 2, The Great Wall, Underworld: Blood Wars, Power Rangers, Army of One
John Wick: Chapter 2     HD720p 31MB   HD1080p 61MB
First trailer for the sequel in which legendary hitman John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, he travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers. Movie will re-unite Neo with Morpheus. Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane return. New to the cast, besides Laurence Fishburne, are Common and Ruby Rose. Once again directed by Chad Stahelski.
I don't think the makers did overthink it.

The Great Wall     HD720p 47MB   HD1080p 92MB
Full trailer for this Chinese-American co-production directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, Raise the Red Lantern, Curse of the Golden Flower) in which Matt Damon saves China. When a mercenary warrior (Damon) is imprisoned within The Great Wall, he discovers the mystery behind one of the greatest wonders of our world. As wave after wave of marauding beasts besiege the massive structure, his quest for fortune turns into a journey toward heroism as he joins a huge army of elite warriors to confront this unimaginable and seemingly unstoppable force. Andy Lau, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal and Willem Dafoe are also part of the cast.
The dialogue will be great. I can see a double bill with Keanu Reeves' 47 Ronin.

Underworld: Blood Wars     HD720p 48MB   HD1080p 84MB
Full trailer for the fifth movie in the series, it follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice. Lara Pulver and Tobias Menzies are also part of the cast. Directorial debut of Anna Foerster, who so far worked as a cinematographer and was responsible for special effects.
IMDb trivia page mentions that there might a sixth movie in the works.

Power Rangers     HD720p 44MB
First trailer for the franchise reboot based on the "worldwide phenomenon" that follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it's too late, band together as the Power Rangers. Among the better known cast members are Elizabeth Banks and Bryan Cranston. Directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac).
In case you were unsure which Power Rangers this is based on, it is Saban's Power Rangers. And if I needed further confirmation that I am not the target group, the trailer informs me that I can unlock exclusive filters on the corresponding snapchat account.

Army of One     HD720p 19MB
Trailer for this comedy based on a true story just so know it actually exists. Gary Faulkner (Nicolas Cage) is an ex-con, unemployed handyman, and modern day Don Quixote who receives a vision from God (Russell Brand) telling him to capture Osama Bin Laden. Armed with only a single sword purchased from a home-shopping network, he travels to Pakistan to complete his mission. While on his quest, Gary encounters old friends back home in Colorado, the new friends he makes in Pakistan, the enemies he makes at the CIA - and even God and Osama themselves. Wendi McLendon-Covey, Rainn Wilson, Denis O'Hare and Matthew Modine are also part of the cast. Directed by Larry Charles (The Dictator, Borat, Brüno)
It looks like it won't have a theatrical release, which seems about right.

04:52 pm - Jackie, Allied, Sleepless, Get Out, Patriots Day
Jackie     HD720p 33MB
Portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). The movie places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband's assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband's legacy and the world of "Camelot" that they created and loved so well. There are conversations of Jackie with her children, her brother-in-law Robert Kennedy (Peter Sarsgaard), one of her aides (Greta Gerwig), journalist White (Billy Crudup), and a Catholic priest (John Hurt).
Won the Best Screenplay Award in Venice and reviews indicate that another Oscar nomination for Portman is likely.

Allied     HD720p 48MB
Full trailer for this thriller that tells the story of an intelligence officer (Brad Pitt), who in 1942 North Africa encounters a French Resistance fighter (Marion Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Reunited in London, their relationship is threatened by the extreme pressures of the war. Jared Harris, Lizzy Caplan, Simon McBurney, August Diehl and Matthew Goode are also part of the cast. Directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Flight, The Walk), screenplay by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Locke, Dirty Pretty Things).
So, it seems Brad Pitt has decide whether or not to kill his wife.

Sleepless     HD720p 25MB
Action thriller in which an undercover Las Vegas police officer (Jamie Foxx) is caught in a high stakes web of corrupt cops and the mob-controlled casino underground. When a heist goes wrong, a crew of homicidal gangsters kidnaps his teenage son. In one sleepless night he will have to rescue his son, evade an internal affairs investigation (Michelle Monaghan) and bring the kidnappers to justice. Dermot Mulroney, Gabrielle Union, David Harbour, Tip 'T.I.' Harris and Scoot McNairy are also part of the cast. Directed by Swiss Baran bo Odar (The Silence, Who Am I).
If you don't want to wait until the movie comes out, try to track down the French movie Sleepless Night on which this is a remake of.

Get Out     HD720p 50MB
Horror thriller in which Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend (Allison Williams) have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating. So she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford). At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behaviour as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
The interesting thing is that it is written and directed by Jordan Peele from Key and Peele.

Patriots Day     HD720p 67MB
First patriotic trailer for this dramatic, patriotic thriller about the Boston Marathon bombing. In the aftermath of the attack a Police Sergeant (Mark Wahlberg) joins survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of a Special Agent (Kevin Bacon), a Police Commissioner (John Goodman), a Sergeant (J.K. Simmons) and a nurse (Michelle Monaghan) this chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history. Directed by Peter Berg (Battleship, The Kingdom, Lone Survivor).
They lost me at Peter Berg making a movie called "Patriots Day".

11:34 am - Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Paterson, The 13th, The Odyssey, Bad Santa 2
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales     HD720p 39MB   HD1080p 103MB
First trailer for yet another sequel. Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea ... including him. His only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas. Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom return. New to the cast are Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, and, I suspect to even out the former appearance of a Rolling Stone, Paul McCartney. Directed by Norwegian duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki, Max Manus, Bandidas).
The Captain isn't in the trailer, presumably still trying to sort out his many personal problems. But he is expected to be back by the movie's release next May.

Paterson     HD720p 30MB
Trailer for the latest drama written and directed by Jim Jarmusch (Ghost Dog, Night on Earth, Only Lovers Left Alive) that quietly observes the triumphs and defeats of daily life, along with the poetry evident in its smallest details. Paterson (Adam Driver) works as a bus driver in Paterson, New Jersey — an ordinary working guy in a run-of-the-mill small city. His life is regulated clockwork: up around 6am, home by 6pm, walk the dog, drop by the local tavern, down a beer, chat with the bartender. His wife is a perfect match. Laura (Golshifteh Farahani) is as even-handed and -tempered as her husband. But there's more to these characters' internal lives. Paterson is a poet and Laura a repressed artistic gadfly. Each day before driving the streets, he scrawls a poem in his notebook, and each evening she welcomes him home with a new and quirky surprise.
Was among the best received movies this year in Cannes.

The 13th     HD720p 22MB
Documentary whose title refers to the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, which reads "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States". The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by this doc. With a mixture of archival footage and testimony from an array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men. Directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma, Middle of Nowhere).
Doc opened the New York Film Festival last week where it was very well received. It will be available on Netflix starting October 7th.

The Odyssey - L'Odyssée     HD720p 21MB
Biopic from France about the legendary explorer Jacques Cousteau. In 1948, Jacques-Yves Cousteau (Lambert Wilson), his wife (Audrey Tautou), and his two sons (Pierre Niney, Benjamin Lavernhe), live in paradise, in a beautiful house looking out over the Mediterranean Sea. But Cousteau dreams only adventure. Thanks to his invention, an autonomous diving suit that allows him to breathe underwater, he has discovered a new world. Henceforth, he will explore this world. And he's prepared to sacrifice everything to do so. Directed by Jérôme Salle (Largo Winch, Zulu, Anthony Zimmer).
A bit of an outrage the way Cousteau copies the look of Steve Zissou.

Bad Santa 2     HD720p 41MB
Second filthy redband trailer for the sequel in which, fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up once again with his angry little sidekick (Tony Cox) to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is "the kid" - chubby and cheery Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly), a 250-pound ray of sunshine, who brings out Willie's sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Willie's horror story of a mother (Kathy Bates). Christina Hendricks and Octavia Spencer are also part of the cast. Directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Mr. Popper's Penguins).

11:30 am - Blue Jay, Fantastic Beasts, 20th Century Women, Fences, The Salesman
Blue Jay     HD720p 18MB
Very nice looking two-hander in black-and-white in which former high school sweethearts (Sarah Paulson, Mark Duplass who also wrote the script) reconnect after 20 years when they unexpectedly run into each other in their tiny California hometown. They spend the day together, sharing stories and rediscovering old feelings, as well as a big secret from their past.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them     HD720p 127MB   HD1080p 197MB
In all likelihood the final trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the book from J.K. Rowling. It opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident ... were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of his fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, Carmen Ejogo and Colin Farrell are also part of the cast. Directed by Rowling's favourite, David Yates, who was responsible for the last four Harry Potter movies.
Time period aside, it now looks like all the other special-effects heavy event movies. Like someone at the studio at one point ordered: Make it more like an Avengers movie!

20th Century Women     HD720p 69MB
Comedic drama set in Santa Barbara in 1979, the film follows a determined single mother (Annette Bening) in her mid-50s who is raising her adolescent son at a moment brimming with cultural change and rebellion.
Looks nice.

Fences     HD720p 37MB
Movie adaptation of the play in which an African American father (Denzel Washington) struggles with race relations in the United States while trying to raise his family in the 1950s and coming to terms with the events of his life. Viola Davis, Mykelti Williamson and Russell Hornsby are also part of the cast. Washington also directed (Antwone Fisher, The Great Debaters).
Washington and Davis also starred in the Broadway revival of the play a few years ago. They both won Tony awards for their performances. Judging by the trailer it still very much looks like a play.

The Salesman - Forushande     HD720p 13MB
Trailer for the latest suspenseful relationship movie written and directed by Iranian Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Past). Forced out of their apartment due to dangerous works on a neighbouring building, Emad and Rana move into a new flat in the centre of Tehran. An incident linked to the previous tenant will dramatically change the young couple's life.
Movie won the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actor this year in Cannes.

11:51 am - Fist Fight, Hidden Figures, My Scientology Movie, Trespass Against Us, The Whole Truth
Fist Fight     HD720p 34MB
Comedy in which on the last day of the year, mild-mannered high school English teacher (Charlie Day) is trying his best to keep it together amidst senior pranks, a dysfunctional administration and budget cuts that put jobs on the line. But things go from bad to worse when he accidentally crosses his much tougher and deeply feared colleague (Ice Cube), who challenges him to an old-fashioned throw down after school. News of the fight spreads like wildfire. Tracy Morgan, Jillian Bell, Christina Hendricks and Kumail Nanjiani are also part of the cast.
At least the trailer looks pretty funny. Though I find the habit of putting snippets of the trailer in front of the actual trailer annoying.

Hidden Figures     HD720p 30MB
Second trailer from Australia for the movie that tells the true story of three brilliant African-American women (Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae) working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big. Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Kevin Costner are also part of the cast. Directed by Ted Melfi (St. Vincent).
While the general release will only be on the Martin Luther King holiday weekend in January, there will be screenings in December to make the movie fulfil the necessary conditions to be eligible for awards.

My Scientology Movie     HD720p 13MB
Another documentary about the Church of Scientology. Inspired by the Church's use of filming techniques, and aided by ex-members of the organisation Louis Theroux uses actors to replay some incidents people claim they experienced as members in an attempt to better understand the way it operates. In a bizarre twist, it becomes clear that the Church is also making a film about Theroux.
If by now you haven't already reached the conclusion that Scientology looks a lot like an absurd, dangerous cult then I'm not sure if another documentary will change your mind. Though maybe using a more playful - but nevertheless still serious - approach may help. If you don't want to wait for the doc, I recommend tracking down Going Clear.

Trespass Against Us     HD720p 27MB
Crime drama with action scenes set across three generations of the Cutler family who live as outlaws in their own anarchic corner of Britain's richest countryside. Chad Cutler (Michael Fassbender) is heir apparent to his bruising criminal father, Colby (Brendan Gleeson) and has been groomed to spend his life hunting, thieving and tormenting the police. But with his own son coming of age, Chad soon finds himself locked in a battle with his father for the future of his young family. When Colby learns of Chad's dreams for another life he sets out to tie his son and grandson into the archaic order that has bound the Cutler family for generations.
Despite its two lead actors it got mostly bad reviews in Toronto.

The Whole Truth     HD720p 26MB
Crime thriller in which defense attorney Richard Ramsay (Keanu Reeves) takes on a personal case when he swears to his widowed friend (Renée Zellweger), that he will keep her son Mike (Gabriel Basso) out of prison. Charged with murdering his father (Jim Belushi), Mike initially confesses to the crime. But as the trial proceeds, chilling evidence about the kind of man his father really was comes to light. While Ramsay uses the evidence to get his client acquitted, his new colleague (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) tries to dig deeper – and begins to realize that the whole truth is something she alone can uncover.
To adjust your expectations, according to IMDb, the movie premiered in March in Japan, in June in Ireland and in August in Mexico and Turkey.

11:10 am - Passengers, Christine, The Alchemist Cookbook, After Love, Bastards
Passengers     HD720p 98MB   HD1080p 162MB
Sci-fi action adventure about two passengers (Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt) onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As the two try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction ... only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up. Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Andy Garcia are also part of the cast. Directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Headhunters).
Looks interesting, though I suspect the trailer reveals far too much.

Christine     HD720p 19MB
Drama that tells the story of a woman who finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a spiraling personal life and career crisis. Christine (Rebecca Hall), always the smartest person in the room at her local Sarasota, Florida news station, feels like she is destined for bigger things and is relentless in her pursuit of an on-air position in a larger market. As an aspiring newswoman with an eye for nuance and an interest in social justice, she finds herself constantly butting heads with her boss (Tracy Letts), who pushes for juicier stories that will drive up ratings. Plagued by self-doubt and a tumultuous home life, Christine's diminishing hope begins to rise when an on-air co-worker (Michael C. Hall) initiates a friendship which ultimately becomes yet another unrequited love.
The previously mentioned dramatised version of the life of Florida newscaster Christine Chubbuck.

The Alchemist Cookbook     HD720p 12MB
As the trailer helpfully informs us, a hard to categorise movie, but let's call it a horror comedy. It's about a young outcast (Ty Hickson) who has isolated himself in a trailer in the woods, setting out on alchemic pursuits, with his cat Kaspar as his sole companion. Filled with disdain for authority, he's fled the daily grind and holed up in the wilderness, escaping a society that has no place for him. But when he turns from chemistry to black magic to crack nature's secret, things go awry and he awakens something far more sinister and dangerous.
Apparently, there isn't much of a story, but the trailer makes it look very funny. Should be worth a shot for friends of somewhat absurdist movies.

After Love - L'économie du couple     HD720p 13MB
Relationship drama from France in which, after 15 years together, Marie (Bérénice Bejo) and Boris (Cédric Kahn) are calling it quits, but until they can resolve the details of their separation agreement - most notably the division of their prize asset, the magazine-photo-worthy apartment they share with their young twin daughters - they're still living together. Marie is the breadwinner in the relationship, but it was her family's wealth, not her salary, that allowed the couple to purchase their stylish apartment. This is a fact that Boris, a contractor currently between jobs, never lets her forget, since it was his renovation work that added significant value to the property. As the two argue over everything the movie reveals the complexities of their relationship and the depth of the cracks in it.

Bastards     HD720p 120MB
R-rated comedy about two brothers (Owen Wilson, Ed Helms) whose eccentric mother (Glenn Close) raised them to believe their father had died when they were young. When they discover this to be a lie, they set out to find their real father, learning more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know. J.K. Simmons, Terry Bradshaw, Katt Williams and Ving Rhames are also part of the cast. Directorial debut of the cinematographer of the Hangover movies.
Looks embarrassing.

11:41 am - Nocturnal Animals, Miss Sloane, Fifty Shades Darker, Moana, The Age of Shadows
Nocturnal Animals     HD720p 19MB
Stylish psychological thriller directed by Tom Ford (A Single Man) that "explores the thin lines between love and cruelty, and revenge and redemption".

Miss Sloane     HD720p 13MB
Teaser for this thriller about a ruthless lobbyist (Jessica Chastain) who is notorious for her unparalleled talent and her desire to win at all costs, even when it puts her own career at risk. It pulls back the curtain on how Capitol Hill games are played and won as she faces off against the most influential powers in D.C. Mark Strong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alison Pill, Jake Lacy, Sam Waterston and John Lithgow are also part of the cast. Directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Debt, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).
Francis Underwood, meet the competition.

Fifty Shades Darker     HD720p 37MB
First trailer for the second movie based on the books by E.L. James. When a wounded Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele (Dakota Johnson) back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together. Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora and Max Martini also return. New cast additions are Kim Basinger, Hugh Dancy, Bella Heathcote and Tyler Hoechlin. Directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross, Confidence, Perfect Stranger).
I almost had forgotten that this series exists. But it looks like I'm the only one since apparently the trailer just overtook 'The Force Awakens' as the most watched one after the first 24 hours of its release. Happy Valentine's Day!

Moana     HD720p 52MB   HD1080p 138MB
Full trailer for the next movie from Disney Animation. It is about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog).
Lin-Manuel Miranda will apparently contribute to the soundtrack, giving him the chance to complete his awards collection.

The Age of Shadows - Mil-jeong     HD720p 13MB
Spy thriller set at the end of the 1920s during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Lee Jung-chool (Song Kang ho), a Korean working for the Japanese police, is tasked with exposing the Korean resistance's second-in-command, Kim Woo-jin (Gong Yoo). To gather intelligence on the group, Lee starts to hang out with Kim, who runs a photography studio as a cover for his underground activities. But after coming in close contact with the rebel fighters, some of whom were once his friends, Lee's mind is clouded by doubts about his dirty work for the occupying forces. His allegiances shift, his employers begin to suspect him, and now he is both hunter and hunted. Directed by Kim Jee-Woon (A Bittersweet Life, A Tale of Two Sisters, The Good the Bad the Weird).
South Korea's official entry for Best Foreign Language Film.

12:58 pm - Free Fire, Live by Night, Gold, King of the Belgians, Voyage of Time
Free Fire     UK HD720p 15MB    US HD720p 32MB
Redband trailers for this comedic action thriller set in Boston in 1978 in which a woman (Academy Award Winner Brie Larson) has brokered a gun deal in an abandoned warehouse between IRA men (Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley) and two gun dealers (Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer). The tension is thicker than the Irish brogues. But everything seems to be going smoothly - until shots are fired during the handover and pandemonium ensues. Sam Riley, Noah Taylor, Jack Reynor and Babou Ceesay are also part of the cast. Directed by Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, High-Rise, Kill List).
Looks like a lot of fun. If you were bored by the two hours in the recent Tarantino movies until the real action began, this one's for you. The two trailers are basically the same, the UK one is shorter which I consider a plus since it reveals less.

Live by Night     HD720p 48MB   HD1080p 94MB
Crime drama set in the roaring '20s, when Prohibition hasn't stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve, and Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules, and he breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Elle Fanning, Chris Cooper, Brendan Gleeson and Chris Messina are also part of the cast. Also directed by Affleck (Argo, Gone Baby Gone, The Town), and adapted by him from a novel by Dennis Lehane.
Ticks off some of the awards boxes.

Gold     HD720p 47MB
Comedic drama that tells the epic tale of a modern day prospector (Matthew McConaughey) desperate for a lucky break, he teams up with a similarly eager geologist (Edgar Ramírez) and sets off on an amazing journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. Getting the gold was hard, but keeping it would be even harder, sparking an adventure through the most powerful boardrooms of Wall Street. You may have guessed it, it is inspired by a true story. Bryce Dallas Howard, Toby Kebbell and Corey Stoll are also part of the cast. Directed by Stephen Gaghan (Syriana).
McConaughey in good form. Hearing Styx's "Renegade" is always welcome.

King of the Belgians     HD720p 22MB
Very funny looking mockumentary in which King Nicolas III of Belgium is a lonely soul who has the distinct feeling he's living the wrong life. He embarks on a state visit to Istanbul with a British filmmaker, who has been commissioned by the Palace to shoot a documentary intended to polish the monarch's rather dull image. The news breaks that Wallonia, Belgium's southern half, has declared its independence. The King, bursting with purpose, must return home at once to save his kingdom. As they rally to depart, a solar storm strikes the earth causing communications to collapse and airspace to shut down. Which means he has to drive home through the Balkans.

Voyage of Time     Pitt HD720p 13MB    Blanchett HD720p 11MB
Documentary written and directed by Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life, The New World, The Thin Red Line) which he has been trying to finish for a couple of decades (he seems to have used some footage in The Tree of Life). It's an exploration into our planetary past and a search for humanity's place in the future. Humming with the energy of nature itself, the film melds innovative special effects with awe-inspiring footage from around the globe and beyond, in search of what lasts, what endures, over time.
Apparently, there will be a 90 minutes version with a voiceover by Cate Blanchett, and a half as long IMAX version narrated by Brad Pitt. According to festival reviews, the visuals are truly stunning, though being able to watch it without any narration at all wouldn't be a bad thing either.

01:09 pm - Certain Women, Collateral Beauty, Mascots, Underworld: Blood Wars, Perfect Strangers
Certain Women     HD720p 18MB
Quiet drama based on three short stories that takes look at three women striving to forge their own paths amidst the wide-open plains of the American Northwest: a lawyer (Laura Dern) who finds herself contending with both office sexism and a hostage situation; a wife and mother (Michelle Williams) whose determination to build her dream home puts her at odds with the men in her life; and a young law student (Kristen Stewart) who forms an ambiguous bond with a lonely ranch hand (Lily Gladstone). As their stories intersect in subtle but powerful ways, a portrait emerges of flawed, but strong-willed individuals in the process of defining themselves. James Le Gros and Jared Harris are also part of the cast. Directed by Kelly Reichardt (Meek's Cutoff, Wendy and Lucy, Night Moves).

Collateral Beauty     HD720p 48MB
Drama about a successful New York advertising executive (Will Smith). When he experiences a deep personal tragedy and retreats from life entirely, his colleagues devise a drastic plan to force him to confront his grief in a surprising and profoundly human way. Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Michael Peña and Naomie Harris are also part of the cast. Directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Hope Springs, Marley & Me).
I prefer inspirational movies to be more subtle. Here I have difficulties to even make it to the end of the trailer.

Mascots     HD720p 18MB
After a whole decade, a trailer for a new comedy from Christopher Guest (Waiting For Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind). This one takes place in the ultra-competitive world of sports mascots where they compete for the most prestigious award in their field, the Gold Fluffy. Many of Guest's regulars return, among them Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Ed Begley, Jr., Bob Balaban and Jennifer Coolidge, Chris O'Dowd also makes an appearance.
Movie will be shown in October on Netflix.

Underworld: Blood Wars     HD720p 36MB
Trailer for the fifth movie in the series, it follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.
Fans will probably be pleased by the return of Beckinsale. For me the first movie is a guilty pleasure, the rest of the movies is mainly a blur. I wonder how many people can keep the various instalments apart. Set for an early January release, so studio expectations are minimal.

Perfect Strangers - Perfetti sconosciuti     HD720p 14MB
Comedic ensemble drama from Italy that poses the question: How well do we really know those close to us? During a dinner party, seven friends decide to play a dangerous game. Each attendee places their cell phone on the table and agrees to make all texts and calls public in an attempt to prove that they have nothing to hide. What at first seems like a playful distraction between friends quickly turns into something much more toxic as the messages begin to reveal how little they may know about the partners and acquaintances surrounding them.
While the set-up is obviously "suicidal", it is a very entertaining movie. It also provides a reminder of the endless potential for profiling and blackmailing for the secret services who collect such information as a living.

11:41 am - My Blind Brother, A United Kingdom, Miss Stevens, Kate Plays Christine, Lion, Team Thor
My Blind Brother     HD720p 23MB
Comedic drama about a guy named Bill (Nick Kroll) who has always lived in the shadow of his overachieving brother Robbie (Adam Scott), an arrogant athlete and local celebrity who happens to be blind. After years of thanklessly helping Robbie achieve one goal after another, Bill finally catches a break when he finds a connection with the charming Rose (Jenny Slate), who is dealing with her own crisis. But when Rose starts dating Robbie, Bill must decide if he can finally put his own happiness over his brother's and compete for the ultimate prize. Zoe Kazan is also part of the cast.

A United Kingdom     HD720p 17MB
Biopic set in London, 1947. Jazz lovers Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) and Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike) meet at a Missionary Society dance. The evening is electric, perhaps in part because both know their attraction is fraught. She's an accomplished office worker, and white. He is a charming law student, and black. What he can't tell her at first is that he's also a prince, first in line to the throne of Bechuanaland (today's Botswana). But despite the obstacles, it's love. When the time comes for Seretse to return home to lead his people's independence movement, he impulsively proposes to Ruth. She accepts, but no one else does - not her family nor his. Neither does South Africa's government, which controls uranium Britain badly needs, and stands on the eve of making apartheid a national policy. Jack Davenport, Tom Felton and Laura Carmichael are also part of the cast. Directed by Amma Asante (Belle).

Miss Stevens     HD720p 13MB
Comedic drama about a young teacher (Lily Rabe), stuck at a crossroads in her personal life, who has to chaperone three of her students (Timothée Chalamet, Lili Reinhart, Anthony Quintal) on a weekend trip to a drama competition. Exploring the fine line between being a grown-up and being a kid, the film is about students becoming teachers and teachers coming to realise that the messiness of youth never really goes away.
Looks charming and low-key. Maybe even a little too low-key.

Kate Plays Christine     HD720p 25MB
Difficult to categorise "non-fiction thriller" that follows actress Kate Lyn Sheil as she prepares for her next role playing Christine Chubbuck, a Florida newscaster who committed suicide live on-air in 1974. As Kate investigates Chubbuck's story, uncovering new clues and information, she becomes increasingly obsessed with her subject.
If you want to add another layer, Rebecca Hall plays the newscaster in a movie called Christine, which also premiered in Sundance, where it was equally well received, and that will have a US release next month. Kate Plays Christine is already in limited release in the US.

Lion     HD720p 17MB
Drama based on a true story in which five-year-old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of kilometers across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple (Nicole Kidman, David Wenham). Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he (Dev Patel) sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home. Rooney Mara is also part of the cast.
It could be that the Weinsteins may try to push this for awards, but judging just from the trailer I have some doubts that will work. But since nobody has seen it yet, it's hard to tell.

Team Thor     HD720p 35MB
Short, amusing mockumentary, used to promote the upcoming DVD release of Captain America: Civil War, about Thor and what he was doing during the recent pissing contest between Captain America and Iron Man.

11:35 am - Manchester by the Sea, Zoom, La La Land, Sully, A Quiet Passion
Manchester by the Sea      HD720p 31MB
Drama about a resident handyman (Casey Affleck) for a small apartment complex in a Boston suburb. He spends his days shovelling snow, fixing leaks, and doing his best to ignore the tenants' small talk. When he receives the news that his older brother (Kyle Chandler) has died of a congenital heart condition and that, to his unpleasant surprise, he's been appointed legal guardian of his teenage son (Lucas Hedges), he returns to his nearby seaside hometown, a place of both cherished and painful memories. Michelle Williams, Gretchen Mol and Matthew Broderick are also part of the cast. Directed by Kenneth Lonergan (Margaret).
Was very well received in Sundance and is widely believed to garner a few award nominations later in the year.

Zoom     US HD720p 15MB    FR HD720p 26MB
Challenging looking comedic drama that consists of three seemingly separate but ultimately interlinked storylines about a cartoonist who draws a comic book about a filmmaker, who shoots a film about a novelist, who writes a book about a cartoonist. Emma (Alison Pill) is a comic-book artist who works by day in a factory that makes sex dolls, which is messing with her head. In an attempt to get herself closer to the plastic fantasy image that surrounds her, she makes a rash decision. Then she decides she wants to reverse that choice, but it's too late and too expensive to turn back. Fortunately, Michelle (Mariana Ximenes), the aspiring novelist writing Emma's story, gives her a way out. In turn, Emma controls the story of Edward (Gael García Bernal), the filmmaker at the centre of the comic book she's drawing. Tyler Labine and Jason Priestley are also part of the cast.
You can choose between the US and the French trailer version. The latter one showing scenes from all three stories.

La La Land     HD720p 14MB
After Ryan Gosling it is now Emma Stone's turn to sing in this second teaser trailer for this stylish, musical drama written and directed by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench). Set in modern-day Los Angeles, it tells the story of Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Rosemarie DeWitt, J.K. Simmons, Finn Wittrock, Sonoya Mizuno, Josh Pence and John Legend are also part of the cast.

Sully     HD720p 131MB   HD1080p 210MB
Second trailer for this drama based on the events that took place on January 15, 2009, the day the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger (Tom Hanks) glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career. Aaron Eckhart and Laura Linney are also part of the cast. Directed by Clint Eastwood (Mystic River, American Sniper, Invictus).
Before you get to the trailer you have to make it through a minute of promo talk.

A Quiet Passion     HD720p 11MB
Biopic that tells the story of 19th-century American poet Emily Dickinson (Cynthia Nixon), from her early days as a young schoolgirl to her later years as a reclusive, unrecognized artist. Jennifer Ehle and Keith Carradine are also part of the cast. Written and directed by Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea, The House of Mirth).
Festival reviews from Berlin have a very wide range.

11:41 am - Hidden Figures, Arrival, Allied, War on Everyone, Unless
Hidden Figures     HD720p 58MB
Movie that tells the true story of three brilliant African-American women (Taraji P. Vincent).
Will scare the core Trump constituency to death. Only figuratively speaking. Unfortunately.

Arrival     US HD720p 46MB    Intl HD720p 24MB
As scheduled, the full trailer for this intriguing looking sci-fi thriller. When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team - lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) - is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity. Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg. Interestingly, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Sicario, Enemy).
You can choose between the US and a quite different international trailer version.

Allied     HD720p 19MB
Teaser for this war/action/romance/drama that tells the story of an intelligence officer (Brad Pitt), who in 1942 North Africa encounters a French Resistance fighter (Marion Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines.
Not sure if there is any meaningful chemistry between Pitt and Cotillard.

War on Everyone     HD720p 33MB
Full trailer from the UK for this dark action comedy about two corrupt cops (Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña) in the Deep South. The two of them screwing over people, ripping them off, blackmailing criminals, and then they eventually come across a villain (Theo James) who is more dangerous than they are... or is he? Tessa Thompson, Stephanie Sigman, Paul Reiser and Caleb Landry Jones are also part of the cast. Written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary).
Apparently not as great as McDonagh's first two movies, but still pretty funny.

Unless     HD720p 16MB
Drama based on the novel by Carol Shields about a Toronto writer (Catherine Keener) who struggles with her daughter's (Hannah Gross) decision to drop out of college and runaway ... only to discover her living on the street pan-handling and refusing to speak, with a cardboard sign reading GOODNESS around her neck. Hanna Schygulla and Matt Craven are also part of the cast.

11:08 am - Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Complete Unknown, Sour Grapes, Skiptrace, Finding Altamira
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story     HD720p 85MB   HD1080p 145MB
Full trailer for the spin-off that takes place before the events of Episode IV.
I guess it's due to the story, but it looks a bit militaristic. In case the above links don't hold: HD720p 40MB   HD1080p 79MB.

Complete Unknown     HD720p 101MB
Quiet drama with an interesting premise. As Tom (Michael Shannon) celebrates his birthday with a group of close friends, he is startled to see a woman from his distant past at the party. Jenny (Rachel Weisz) - or Alice, as she now calls herself - first denies even knowing Tom, but as the evening progresses, she reveals a shocking secret. After disappearing from his life 20 years earlier, she began to reinvent herself every few years, taking on a new name, a new career and a new life each time. After giving Tom a glimpse of what life could be like if he lets go of the safety and security he has so carefully created, she asks him to make a choice that will change everything.
Kathy Bates, Danny Glover, Michael Chernus and Azita Ghanizada are also part of the cast. Directed by Joshua Marston (Maria Full of Grace).

Sour Grapes     HD720p 25MB
Highly entertaining looking documentary that plays like a thriller about one of the most impressive wine frauds in modern history. Central to the story is Rudy Kurniawan – part Catch Me If You Can, part Gatsby – and his flagrant hoodwinking of some of the wealthiest connoisseurs on the international wine scene, including billionaire Bill Koch. Known as "a rock star of wine tasting" by elite tasting group Twelve Angry Men, Kurniawan was selling so-called vintages into the millions of dollars until fourth-generation winemaker Laurent Ponsot smelled a rat.
I hope I'll get a chance to see it.

Skiptrace     HD720p 33MB
Action, buddy comedy directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Hercules: The Legend Begins). For years, by-the-book Hong Kong detective Benny Chan (Jackie Chan) has tried to avenge his partner's murder at the hands of a drug lord. When Benny learns that a freewheeling American gambler (Johnny Knoxville) has the evidence he needs, he teams with him to get justice. Fan Bingbing, Eric Tsang, Winston Chao and Eve Torres are also part of the cast.
I feel the need to mention that Chan is now 62.

Finding Altamira     HD720p 15MB
Period drama based on true events set in 19th century Spain. An archaeologist (Antonio Banderas) and his daughter investigate a local cave called Altamira and discover ancient paintings of oxen and various examples of human life. His wife (Golshifteh Farahani) doesn't believe in the legitimacy of the drawings until they draw international acclaim from numerous archaeologists from around the globe. The paintings spark outrage against the family because for the first time, archaeological evidence directly contradicts the historical teachings of the Catholic Church, and launch a debate that would ultimately change the world but cost the family everything. Rupert Everett, Pierre Niney, Henry Goodman and Clément Sibony are also part of the cast. Directed by Hugh Hudson (Chariots of Fire, Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Revolution), his first movie after 25 years.
I suspect the movie won't be a big hit among the "Creationists".

11:36 am - Dunkirk, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Arrival, Bad Santa 2, Snowden
Dunkirk     HD720p 44MB   HD1080p 76MB
Early announcement teaser for the latest movie written and directed by Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, Inception). There isn't yet an official summary, but it is a war movie set during the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940 during World War II, when allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain, Canada and France were surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle. Cast members include Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, James D'Arcy and Barry Keoghan.
Teaser doesn't reveal much, but, unsurprisingly, it looks like the movie will once again be pretty epic in scale. To be in theatres next July.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter     US HD720p 94MB    Intl HD720p 22MB
From the franchises that refuse to die department, two trailer for what allegedly will be the sixth and final movie of the series based on video games.
You can choose between the US and a slightly more coherent international trailer version.

Arrival     HD720p 10MB
Teaser for this intriguing looking sci-fi thriller.
Full trailer to follow next week.

Bad Santa 2     HD720p 39MB
Redband trailer for the sequel in which, fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up once again with his angry little sidekick (Tony Cox) to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve.
Since this one probably will just be meaner and more vulgar, why not just again watch the first movie.

Snowden     HD720p 97MB
Second trailer for the thriller directed Oliver Stone (JFK, World Trade Center, Natural Born Killers) about Edward Snowden (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. Also part of the cast are Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans and Nicolas Cage.
I still think it is unfortunate that Snowden's personal life will be so much in focus when its the things he revealed that should be discussed. If you're interested in Snowden, and haven't done so already, I still recommend having a look at the Oscar winning documentary Citizenfour. It is history making documented in real-time.

11:27 am - Up For Love, Masterminds, London Road, Hacksaw Ridge, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week, xXx 3
Up For Love - Un homme à la hauteur     HD720p 28MB
Romantic comedy from France, a remake of an Argentinian movie. Diane (Virginie Efira) is brilliant, beautiful, witty, and a formidable lawyer. She's just put an end to a toxic, unhappy marriage and is finally considering the idea of meeting someone new. A series of fateful events lead her to receive a phone call from the mysterious Alexandre (Jean Dujardin), who has found her lost mobile. Courteous, funny, and effortlessly charming, he soon wins Diane over, and before she knows it, she's agreed to a date. But their first meeting is not quite what either of them expected. Directed by Laurent Tirard (Molière, Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia).
The obvious question is of course why not let a shorter person play the lead instead of using digital effects on Dujardin. But it is difficult to resist Dujardin's charme.

Masterminds     HD720p 92MB
A new trailer for this action comedy based, of course, on true events in which David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) discovers the true meaning of adventure. He is a simple man stuck in a monotonous life. Every day he drives an armored car, transporting millions with no escape in sight. The only bit of excitement is his crush (Kristen Wiig), who lures him into the scheme of a lifetime. Along with a group of half-brained criminals (Owen Wilson among them) and a faulted heist plan, he manages the impossible and makes off with $17 million ... only problem is he foolishly hands the money over to this group of double-crossers and is set up to take the fall. Jason Sudeikis, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are also part of the cast. Directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos).
If your producing movie studio goes bankrupt, causing the delay of the release for more than a year, it gives you the chance to make a new trailer. And the opportunity to adjust your title cards to mention that it stars not just Wiig, but also has (probably small) roles for two more of the recent Ghostbusters. I wonder if they even re-cut the movie.

London Road     HD720p 30MB
Musical from the UK based on the stage production that documents the events that shook Suffolk in 2006, when the quiet rural town of Ipswich was shattered by the discovery of the bodies of five women. The residents of London Road had struggled for years with frequent soliciting and curb-crawling on their street. The film follows the community who found themselves at the epicentre of the tragic events, and is based on interviews conducted with the road's real residents. Using their own words set to an innovative musical score. Cast includes Olivia Colman and Tom Hardy and many members of the original National Theatre stage cast.

Hacksaw Ridge     HD720p 46MB
Patriotic war movie that tells the story of Desmond Doss [Andrew Garfield] who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Sam Worthington, Vince Vaughn, Richard Roxburgh, Teresa Palmer, Luke Bracey, Rachel Griffiths and Hugo Weaving are also part of the cast. Directed by Mel Gibson (Apocalypto, The Passion of the Christ, Braveheart).
Difficult to say what I dislike more, Gibson's religious or his "patriotic" movies. Film will premiere out of competition in Venice. The full festival line-up.

The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years     HD720p 33MB
Documentary focused on The Beatles' touring years, from the early days of the Cavern Club in Liverpool and engagements in Hamburg in the early ’60s to their last public concert in Candlestick Park, San Francisco, in 1966. It is said to contain some never before seen footage. Directed by Ron Howard (The Da Vinci Code, Apollo 13, Rush).
It's all a bit confusing, but at least part of the doc will premiere in the US on Hulu mid-September.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage     HD720p 21MB
For the release of the recent trailer for the sequel the studio made almost a dozen 10 second teasers. Someone put them all together into one clip and I find the result quite amusing.

11:53 am - The Great Wall, The Accountant, Split, Ithaca, Sausage Party
The Great Wall     HD720p 29MB   HD1080p 47MB
Teaser trailer for this Chinese-American co-production directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, Raise the Red Lantern, Curse of the Golden Flower). When a mercenary warrior (Matt Damon) is imprisoned within The Great Wall, he discovers the mystery behind one of the greatest wonders of our world.
With the growing importance of the Chinese market for Hollywood - in terms of audience as well as financing - Western audiences probably have to get used to such high-profile mash-ups.

The Accountant     HD720p 117MB   HD1080p 195MB
Full trailer for crime thriller. Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organisations. With the Treasury Department's Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starting to close in, he takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as he uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise. Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow are also part of the cast. Directed by Gavin O'Connor (Warrior, Pride and Glory, Miracle).
I was already sold by the first trailer.

Split     HD720p 48MB   HD1080p 90MB
Horror thriller written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, The Visit, After Earth) that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man's fractured, gifted mind. Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him - as well as everyone around him - as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.
Set for a January release.

Ithaca     HD720p 78MB
Family drama that marks the directorial debut of Meg Ryan. When his older brother leaves to fight in the Second World War, fourteen-year-old Homer Macauley (Alex Neustaedter) takes on a job as a bicycle telegraph messenger to provide for his widowed mother (Meg Ryan), his older sister and his younger brother. He delivers messages of love, hope, pain and death to the good people of Ithaca, but soon must grapple with a message that will change him forever. Sam Shepard, Tom Hanks and Hamish Linklater are alo part of the cast.
Festival reviews mostly weren't very kind.

Sausage Party     HD720p 29MB
Another redband trailer for this raunchy animated comedy about one sausage's quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale. Voices will be provided by Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, Edward Norton, and Salma Hayek.
It is kind of funny.
