12:11 pm - Great New Wonderful, Alatriste, Superman Returns, Quinceanera, Pulse The Great New Wonderful 12 MB Another movie that deals with the effects of 9/11. But unlike United 93 and World Trade Center that for whatever reason want to remind us of events that everyone still is completely aware of, this one shows what life is like in New York one year after the dramatic events. It does so by interweaving five stories about ordinary people, some dramatic, some comedic, which should make it much more easier to watch. The extensive cast includes Maggie Gyllenhaal, Edie Falco, Tony Shalhoub, Jim Gaffigan, Olympia Dukakis, Judy Greer, Will Arnett, Naseeruddin Shah and Stephen Colbert.
Alatriste Spanish 10MB Subtitles 7MB Viggo Mortensen plays the Spanish soldier-turned-mercenary Captain Alatriste, a heroic figure from the country's 17th century imperial wars. Based on the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte (The Ninth Gate/The Dumas Club, The Fencing Master). The full trailer from Spain, which means it's in Spanish. But technical quality is decent and I'm sure that there are enough non-Spanish speakers who might appreciate some good fencing and/or Viggo Mortensen. Additionally, three and a half minutes of trailer-like footage with subtitles and English voice-over.
Superman Returns HQ 26MB HD480p 39MB HD720p 83MB Official release of last week's trailer that, best to my knowledge, is shown in the US in theatres before X-Men. As I've mentioned before, it contains a lot of new footage so decide for yourself if you want to see it beforehand. As much as I applaud the release of HD versions, the fact that in this case they are hosted by yahoo with their meagre download speed means that if you opt for the large version you better take a nap or run some errands during the download. And it looks like there's a chance that a first teaser trailer for Spider-Man 3 will be shown in theatres before Superman Returns. Additionally, lots of pictures from the set of Spider-Man 3, including a blonde Bryce Dallas Howard and Topher Grace.
Quinceanera 6 MB Drama about a fifteen year old Mexican-American girl whose blissful life is complicated by the discovery that she's pregnant. Kicked out of her house, she finds a new family with her great-granduncle and gay cousin. The movie won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award this year in Sundance.
Pulse 4 MB This time it's really a very different trailer. It's shorter and puts much more emphasis on the horror effects and less on the development of the story. Remake of a Japanese horror movie with Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) in the leading role. After the suicide of one of their friends a group of young adults receive e-mails saying that the end of the world is near. Slowly those who receive the e-mails fall into a deep depression. The only one who failed to open the e-mail tries to stop those she loves from killing themselves like her best friend did. Supporting cast includes Ian Somerhalder, Christina Milian, and Rick Gonzalez.

We also got the Superman trailer before X-Men 3 here in SA.
And yay for Spider-Man 3 pics! Thank you for the link! Then chances are that it's shown here too. But I'm one of the few persons who hasn't seen the movie yet. :)
On a different note, if (and that's a big IF) I want to send you an email concering yesterday's entry, should I use your LJ address? (The big if is because of the difficulty of writing about a serious subject in a foreign language and the large amount of time it takes to do it.) Yes, my LJ address goes to my Gmail account.
And I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must be to write an email in a foreign language. :) I'm somewhat used to writing emails in English by now, but it gets very difficult when it's about topics that would even be difficult to address in your native tongue. :) ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/98276751/1354494) | | From: | sensaes |

*G* Oh, you know what I like!
The .FLV file is on quite a slow server, I notice (78%, currently...). Blimey! I'm going to take that as a good sign, if it's an indication of demand! ;o) I'm sure it is, not at least because of my entry. ;) ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/46612440/1354494) | | From: | sensaes |

*G*
*Tips the hat-brim accordingly.*
And doesn't it look good! *Puts another circle around the film's name on "The List"...* It really looks good. I'm sometimes sceptical of European productions that use a (somewhat) big international star to make/finance a movie. But this looks very nice. Even for non-fencers. ;) ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/98276751/1354494) | | From: | sensaes |

LOL! *Must...resist...must...resist!*
Oh, bollocks, I can't.
Touché!
*Goes to hide.* ;o) Ah-HA! I'm learning Spanish. And thus, I love the Alatriste trailer. And you, for delivering it unto my f-list! <3
*dances* I have to admit that the thought that this movie would be another good subject for a Spanish class crossed my mind. :)
*dances with you* You're welcome!
Judging from your icon I assume that you're referring to the Superman trailer. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/60705242/1500133) | | From: | lea724 |

Great New Wonderful looks interesting. And it has a fantastic cast in it, so I bet it's good.
I also downloaded Quinceanera. I think that that may be one I rent after it's been in the theaters (assuming it even comes to where I live). I was also pleasantly surprised by 'Great New Wonderful'. I hope to find out more about it in the coming weeks.
Quinceanera: Never say never, but I have a feeling that it will indeed be a very limited release. ![[User Picture]](http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/116562477/477781) | | From: | keever |

This is a great batch!
I'd forgotten about The Great New Wonderful. I'll be curious to see how it actually turns out, but it looks like it could be good.
The voiceover on the Alatriste trailer-type thing is laughably bad. It makes the movie seem like a cheesy TV movie of the week.
I'm glad to see actual footage from Quinceañera after hearing so many good things about it after Sundance. It looks good, too. 'The Great New Wonderful' looks really nice. I'm looking forward to find out more about it in the coming weeks.
Alatriste: You're absolutely right. The file you've seen is from a French Media/TV company that probably has co-produced the movie. I suspect that they use this file to promote/sell the movie to prospective (international) buyers. The other file is only half as long and looks much more like a typical trailer. It has no voice-over. The Great New Wonderful looks really interesting. Fantastic cast. I've veered away from most projects dealing with 9/11, since my general feeling is that it is still too soon. Glamorising horrific events, even if it is intended to be in memoriam, is still cashing in to a nation's very personal trauma for commercial profit, which doesn't sit well ethically in any light. Titanic still bugs me. But The Great New Wonderful looks like it might be genuinely trying to say something profound. I'll probably go watch just to see if it succeeds. And for Judy Greer who I adore. :)
Thanks so much! It really looks wonderful :). With a very diverse cast. I also don't have much interest in watching movies that only re-tell the events of 9/11. For me those events are still present enough, I don't need a movie about it. But as you said, this one looks like it might be able to say something.
I can't say something about Titanic since I'm the one who hasn't seen it. ;) |
