10:50 am - Silence, Jackie, Brimstone, Always Shine, The Last Face
Silence     HD720p 34MB   HD1080p 68MB
Drama based on a novel of historical fiction by Shusaku Endo. It is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests (Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver) face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor (Liam Neeson) and to spread the gospel of Christianity, at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. Tadanobu Asano and Ciarán Hinds are also part of the cast. Directed by Martin Scorsese (The Departed, Goodfellas, The Last Temptation of Christ).
Very extensive article about Scorsese and the making of the movie. Highly interesting, but it also reveals many parts of the story.

Jackie     HD720p 36MB
Full trailer for the portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). The movie places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband's assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband's legacy and the world of "Camelot" that they created and loved so well. There are conversations of Jackie with her children, her brother-in-law Robert Kennedy (Peter Sarsgaard), one of her aides (Greta Gerwig), journalist White (Billy Crudup), and a Catholic priest (John Hurt).
Won the Best Screenplay Award in Venice and reviews indicate that another Oscar nomination for Portman is likely.

Brimstone     HD720p 14MB
Trailer from the Netherlands for this violent revenge western, an epic of survival set in the searing wilds of the Badlands, the menacing inferno of the old American West. Midwife Liz (Dakota Fanning) has a quiet country life on a farm with her kind-hearted husband and children. One Sunday, a mysterious new reverend (Guy Pearce) gives his inaugural sermon, and Liz fills with terror; her past has come back to haunt her. Following the service, a local woman goes into labour on the church floor. Through no fault of her, the birth goes woefully wrong. When the woman's husband seeks revenge, the reverend comes to the rescue of Liz and her family - though he warns that punishment will soon befall her. Carice van Houten, Kit Harington and Carla Juri are also part of the cast.
Festival reviews indicate that is it indeed rather brutal.

Always Shine     HD720p 11MB
Psychological thriller in which two friends, both actresses (Mackenzie Davis, Caitlin FitzGerald), leave Los Angeles for Big Sur, embarking on a weekend getaway to reconnect. Once alone, however, the two women's suppressed jealousies and deep-seated resentments bubble to the surface, causing them to lose grasp not just of the true nature of their relationship, but also of their own identities.
If you enjoyed Queen of Earth, you may like this film too. Now in limited release in the US.

The Last Face     HD720p 16MB
Drama that centres around a love affair between a relief-aid doctor (Javier Bardem) and the director of an international aid organization (Charlize Theron). Set against the devastating backdrop of war-torn Liberia, the two must find a way to keep their relationship alive in extraordinarily difficult conditions battling their mutual passion for the value of life matched by the intensity of their diametrically opposed opinions on how best to solve the conflict that surrounds them. Jared Harris, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Jean Reno are also part of the cast. Directed by Sean Penn (Into the Wild, The Pledge, The Crossing Guard).
Holds the unwelcome distinction of being the worst reviewed movie in Cannes in recent memory (reviews use words like preposterous, pretentious, pompous, ponderous, pointless a lot). If you want to see a movie about war in Africa, better look for Beasts of No Nation.
