09:27 am - Watchmen, Body of Lies, Twilight, Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging Watchmen HD480p 43MB HD720p 100MB HD1080p 172MB Feat1 Feat2 Feat3 First trailer for Zack Snyder's (300) adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel. When an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) begins an investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more terrifying conclusion. Other cast members include Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl), Matthew Goode (Ozymandias), Billy Crudup (Dr. Manhattan), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian) and Malin Akerman (Silk Spectre). There have also been three more video blog entries since I posted the first one a while ago that document the movie's development.
Body of Lies HD480p 32MB HD720p 72MB HD1080p 127MB Dramatic thriller directed by Ridley Scott (American Gangster, Gladiator, Blade Runner). Based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius' 2007 novel about a CIA operative (Leonardo DiCaprio), who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan. When he devises a plan to infiltrate his network, he must first win the backing of cunning CIA veteran (Russell Crowe) and the collegial, but perhaps suspect, head of Jordanian intelligence. Although ostensibly his allies, he questions how far he can really trust these men without putting his entire operation - and his life - on the line. DiCaprio seems to still channel his previous role and Crowe speaks funny, but other than that it looks interesting. I mean, it's a Ridley Scott movie.
Twilight HD480p 26MB HD720p 60MB HD1080p 86MB Second teaser for the big screen adaptation of the first book of the series of youth novels written by Stephenie Meyer scheduled for release in December. It tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, The Nativity Story). It still makes me laugh. I'm sorry.
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging 39 MB On a lighter note, a coming of age comedy (which is obviously also always a drama) that centres on a 14-year-old girl who keeps a diary about the ups and downs of being a teenager, including the things she learns about kissing. Directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham, Bride & Prejudice). Snogging is such a wonderfully descriptive word.

Watchmen...GAH. Can't wait.
As for Twilight - yeah, just as ridiculous as the first trailer. They even managed to make the nomad vamps look ridiculous/wimpy. Still love the girl though. That long red hair.. flipping it out of the way to take a bite out of a guy - how is that not hot? ;P

I'm a bit confused. What scene are you referring to?
Nothing in the trailer, sorry. It was in a behind the scenes before the first trailer came out even. Could have swore you had linked to it way back, possibly not.
I see! I thought I missed something even though I watched it again. It's perfectly possible that I posted the BTS clip. I just don't remember anymore. :)
And I wouldn't bother trying to - best to forgive and forget. Or at the least, forget. ;)
What were we talking about? ;)
Well, what we should have been talking about it the awesomeness that is Simon Pegg. I just got a notice that my Spaced dvds just shipped. OH EM GEE. I can finally watch it on my television next week!
Much better topic. While I have heard good things about "Spaced", unfortunately, it was never shown here. I'll probably have to swim across the English Channel one day to buy me a copy. ;)
Indeed. What region do you purchase? Because there's of course the UK ones already out. But region 1 is releasing next week.
Yes, region 2. I know it's been out in the UK for quite a while. But I very rarely watch TV shows. So just the fact that I'm interested in watching "Spaced" at one point is a rare occurrence. :)

Watchmen looks pretty awesome. not so sure about Ozymandias. He still looks weedy to me :/
I'm not familiar with the graphic novel (I only watched the video blog entries) so I didn't (and still don't) know exactly what to expect. But I can see how you can find Ozymandias weedy. On the other hand, the Comedian looks pretty bad-ass. The glowing Dr. Manhattan irritates me a bit but I'm sure I'll find out in time that it all makes perfect sense. :)

The graphic novel is very good. It'd be worth picking up, but then I suppose it would ruin the movie for you ;). Dr Manhattan is... actually better than I thought he would look, and the Comedian (who I kind of feel is the one character they can't fuck up otherwise the story won't work) is truuuly badass. I kind of wanted to see more of Rorschach, but I'm sure we can wait for other trailers. For reference: this is what Ozymandias looks like in the comic. Movie version's head is too small for his costume. I think that's what is bothering me.
I think I will wait until I've seen the movie before I'll consider reading the comic. I think I like it better that way. I also will stop watching the featurettes soon since it will probably pose a challenge not to find out too much by just watching the trailers alone that will come out between now and next March.
Thanks for the info. :)
The novel is so amazing that you really should read it, but you REALLY should wait until after the film ;-) That way you can love both, you know? I kind of wish I could have waited...Darn me losing my Watchmen virginity out of film-lock!
Don't worry, at this point I don't plan to lose my Watchmen virginity by reading. I hope I'll be able to stay strong. ;)

It's funny, I just finished buying and re-reading Watchmen for the first time in over 10 years just a couple days ago. On a whim. I didn't know about the upcoming movie. I also read it when I was a teenager when it was releasing as individual comics back in the mid 80's. Waiting wasn't an option. Now I just have to hope they don't deviate too far and can somehow compress the whole thing into something watchable. They sure tarted up the Silk Spectre, but I guess that's to be expected. The rest seem to look pretty good, and I was able to picture every scene they show in the trailer with where it belonged in the book. A good sign...
Teaser sieht in der Tat interessant aus. Wenn auch für mich ein wenig verwirrend. Aber denke das macht nix. Ist ja erst der Anfang der Marketing Kampagne.
Wow, is that what they changed the title to? The book is called Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging. The book is seriously hilarious. Shy people should not read it in public because it is laugh-out-loud funny in the truest sense. I had no idea they were making it a movie...
I didn't know that! Imdb says the book title was the working title. Don't know why they changed it. Sounds a bit "tamer" this way.
While I'm certainly not part of the "target group" I thought the trailer is promising. Made me smile once or twice. :)
Huh, why Perfect instead of Full Frontal?
You're not alone: Twilight makes me laugh. Or cry. In book or movie form.
I don't know. Imdb says that was the "working title". The German title translated back to English means "Frontal snogging". Which can be seen as a compromise. :)
Thankfully, it only makes me laugh. But I can see how it can also make you cry. ;)
Well, based on this short preview Body of Lies looks intense enough, but I can't tell if it will be in a good way. DiCaprio does seem to channel previous roles (and the cell phone conversation reminded me of The Departed), but what got me excited is that Crowe looks just like he did in The Insider. That's always a good sign, right?
If it's wrong to laugh at Twilight... Then I don't want to be right.
Yes, in the case of DiCaprio I was also mainly thinking of "The Departed". I can see your point with Crowe and "The Insider". Personally, I was at first reminded of "A Beautiful Mind". ;) It's a Ridley Scott movie, so I'm definitely interested. Even though I'm probably in this case thankful that Crowe will be dubbed. The movie itself reminded me also of "Spy Game" with Redford and Pitt, directed by brother Tony Scott.
Without the books I'm not sure if the movie would make it to theatres.
It still makes me laugh. I'm sorry.
I am trying to stop any details of this film entering into my brain (however, I went crazy with the books). THE DESCRIPTION!! Most hilarious!
I suspect the books leave at least some things to the imagination. :)
Body of lies: diCaprio finally showing signs of aging shocker. I'll probably see it, though.
Twilight: omigosh, the mean looking dude is the guy who played a meanie in the OC who I HATED so that should be fun. I haven't dared read this book, although everyone I know am trashing it with such delight that I may just have to.
Angus etc.. I've seen this trailer in the cinema several times now. It looks sort of cute, might catch it on dvd.
Watchmen: I am actually reading that right now! And I nearly had a heart attack with how perfect it looks, based on my 1/3 way through reading. Can't wait!
Body of Lies: It's the beard. ;) I'm looking forward to find out more about it. So far I'm certainly interested.
Twilight: While I will be curious to see what the movie will eventually look like. Seeing it on TV in a year or two will be enough. And I'm sadly reading so little that this series will certainly won't make the list. No matter how much peer pressure. ;)
Angus: I also thought it looks cute. But one day on TV will do.
Watchmen: As with "300", Snyder seems to be obsessed to make things look like in the graphic novel. Personally, I think the most important thing is to make a good movie. If he's able to make it look like in the book, even better.
Every new piece of Twilight media MAKES MY DAY. I find it so deeply, completely, thoroughly hilarious -- I mean, my body becomes WRACKED WITH LAUGHTER every time! It is the gift that keeps on giving!
I wish the comic book superhero movie genre would start developing some diversity. I mean, not ethnic -- but they're all SO ALIKE that it's gotten hard to get excited about them. Even the Actual Good Ones are kinda blah for me (and I love this stuff! or I used to) because they all seem to have the same themes, use the same shots, employ the same contrasty camera filter, etc. I think Watchmen looks pretty good, but it doesn't, you know, amaze me.
Sorry, that sounds really whiny! I'm not really complaining. I guess my geek heart is just bereft. There's nothing new to get obsessed about anymore. ;)
Thanks, as always, for the trailers!
The more I see from Twilight, the more I get the feeling that the whole thing is a bad joke. While I like the idea of telling a story with a low budget, there are limits when it comes to production value, story and dialogue. At this point I'm just curious how far the internet (and book) hype can spill over to box office success. Before the movie comes out I will probably try to find out how many of the books were sold.
In the case of Watchmen there seems to be at least an interesting story that forms the basis of the movie (which I'm not familiar with) which I think is a plus and sets it apart from your average, generic superhero story. On the other hand I see the risk from character overload, a la X-Men. But so far I'm curious.
What I am completely allergic to is the hype surrounding all the blockbusters (which superhero movies most of the time inevitably are). With the Dark Knight being no exception. First the media, and now everybody's raving about it (seing that it's at the moment rated #1 at imdb doesn't help either). I don't say that they aren't right (I obviously haven't seen it), it's just that the constant cheering automatically turns me off. I'm afraid I'm totally unable to get "obsessed" with a movie. The movie will only come out at the end of August here so giving my viewing habits it will be about two months until I will have to think about whether or not I want to see it. Maybe by then I'll be interested again, or I won't care anymore. :)
You're welcome! :)
I'm vaguely familiar with the Watchmen story from Wikipedia. It's intriguing; I guess I'm disconnected from it because it wasn't my thing. But I have to say that I'll really admire this movie if they contain that story within a movie. No more prequels and sequels, por favor! I'm... not excited about The Dark Knight either. You're right; it's been pushed so hard that it makes me want to wait for the DVD (or, let's be honest, for the inevitable camcorder-filmed bootleg of ~uncertain Asian origin~ to show up on the movie-streaming websites). Now, TWILIGHT. I think the movie looks serviceable, etc: a bit like a poor man's teenage girl's Underworld. But the PHENOMENON part of it..! ohnotheydidnt's 'coverage' of Twilight has been totally educational for me. I swear, the whole thing: the terrible books, the batshit crazy fans*, the HILARIOUS trailers and media coverage... it's like an amazing piece of Dada performance art! A SYMPHONY of hilariousness. The movie is almost just, like, incidental.
* Have you heard about Twilight Moms? So, the books are about a clumsy virgin (clumsiness is her tragic flaw! her Achilles heel!) and her hot vampire boyfriend who glitters in the sunlight and the Romeo-&-Juliet thing they have. Somehow, this formula has proven IRRESISTIBLE to a large group of homebound middle-class American moms. I FIND THIS VERY DISMAYING, especially as a portrait of American culture.
But I would say that The Dark Knight strongly falls in the category that it has to be seen on a movie theatre screen (regular or otherwise) since I think it won't be the same if you watch it for the first time at home. So right now I think I will see it, not at least because of this argument.
No, I hadn't heard about Twilight Moms. So, um, thanks for bringing that to my attention. ;) I'm afraid all this hoopla surrounding Twlight mainly reminds me that "fan" is the short form of "fanatic". Which, in mild doses is okay, but it can quickly get out of hand. ;)

Twilight: I've read the books and enjoyed them, but the hype on the internet is getting to be too much for me, so I think I may skip this one.
Angus...: I actually have a friend who loves these books, so I'll be sharing the movie link with her. Thanks! :)
Twilight: The only way I can imagine "enjoying" this is watching it together with some likeminded friends and make fun of it. But even then it raises the question if I don't have better things to do with my time. Then again, I'm clearly not part of the "target group". ;)
Angus: It looks like fun. If someone loves the books there's always the risk to be disappointed but the trailer looks a lot funnier than other teenage comedies.
Thanks, as always, for the trailers - I'm not at all familiar with Watchmen, but I saw the trailer on Dark Knight yesterday and was COMPLETELY blown away. I've become a rabid wannabe fan overnight. I don't know what Dr. Manhattan looked like in the source material, but this film version is mesmerizing. I'll probably end up breaking down and reading the novel before the film gets here just because my fiance won't be able to keep himself from telling me bits and pieces anyway.
I have read all three Twilight books. I will probably read the next one coming out. I can tell you with no hesitation that they are the most godawful excuse for literature I have ever struggled through, and yet . . . for some reason, I'm dying to know how things turn out for the main characters. I don't even like the main characters most of the time. The writing and plot are so bad that they'd be rejected for use in soap operas. I suppose I'll end up seeing this stupid movie for the same reason I'll end up reading the next stupid book - no matter how much I desperately want to not give a shit, I'm kind of interested. I can't tell you how much this annoys me. Avoid this crap like the plague!
You're welcome! :) I'm not familiar with the source material either. But other sites have linked to comparisons between the book and the trailer and it seems very faithful. But, of course, shinier. I will try my best to avoid learning too much about the story besides watching the trailers but it will be a bit of a challenge. While I have no fiancé, there are a lot of comic fans on my flist and of course a lot of the movie sites cover it. Thanks for the warning. I don't think I'm at risk to fall for the books. And the story of your plight serves as another warning not to fall victim to the series. I hope you'll be able to break free after the next book. :)
By all reports this is the last Twilight series book, so yes! I can put them forever from my mind . . . just as soon as I find out what happens.
*facedesk*
A friend of mine it translating the book into Croatian. He has also indicated that it will be the last book. He could've said more. But then he would've had to kill me. ;)
ROFL!! Ah, if only it were worth dying for . . . or at least considering dying for. Or getting a hangnail over. Anything!
If my plans do not go awry (they seem to quite often) I am seeing X-Files in three and a half hours. I do hope Agent Scully's head does not explode, as this leads to carpet stains.
From what I've learned by having a brief look at available reviews, it doesn't seem to be the case that her head explodes. But, you never know. ;) Hope you enjoyed it!
Nope, no head explosions, thankfully. I did enjoy it very much! Rather like a very long overdue visit from some very old friends.
By the way, I love that icon. :D
Thanks! :)
Agent Scully is very excited that the movie will finally be released. So excited that I'm afraid her head might explode. ;D |
